'We did seriously exacerbate the divisions.'(Interview)
Article Abstract:
Edward Lazarus, 1988-1989 clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun and author of the book 'Closed Chambers' on the court, describes much conflict among liberal and conservative clerks for control of the development of constitutional law. Lazarus maintains the justices were unaware of the bitter nature of this conflict. Lazarus is most critical of the chief justice, maintaining that deliberation and discussion had a low place among his priorities.

High court goes for 'skeptical' scrutiny on gender
Article Abstract:
The Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Virginia that the men-only policy of the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) violated the constitutional equal protection clause and that VMI's proposed remedy, a separate woman's program at a private women's college, would not cure the violation. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, throughout her career a champion warrior against sex discrimination, wrote the majority opinion.
