The beneficial economic aspects of proprietary after-markets for consumers are discussed. Issues include the economics of a strategy of selling component products that are strict complements for each other, the welfare aspects of such a strategy, legal implications of defending proprietary aftermarkets, and assertion of intellectual property rights over system components.

Relaxing antitrust during economic downturns: a real options analysis of Appalachian Coals and the failing firm defense

United States v. IBM: a monument to arrogance

The author is critical of the antitrust enforcement surrounding the 1998 U.S. 2d Circuit Court of Appeals case United States v. IBM Corp. which resulted in dismissal on the government's initiative after several costly years of litigation. The author suggests that market conditions were ignored.
