Article Abstract:
Dianne Jay Weaver, long considered one of the most prominent US female trial lawyers, represents plaintiffs in products liability, general personal injury and fraud, and medical malpractice litigation, but her specialty is litigation with a public-interest component. In 1988, Weaver was profiled in the National Law Journal's "Winning" section for winning a $5.1 mil punitive-damage-award, the largest US consumer fraud verdict to that date, against a Florida-based auto-dealership. Another 1980s achievement was persuading the Florida Supreme Court to accept the concept of market share in the diethylstilbestrol litigation.
