Youth justice in Great Britain
Article Abstract:
A study describes the youth justices systems of England and Scotland that operate side by side within the same nonfederal nation state, both sharing a commitment to preventive as opposed to retributive goals, but pursuing them in sharply contrasting ways. Scotland has a unified welfare-based system, committed to the prevention of harm to children, whereas a correctionalist system committed to the prevention of offending is operational in England.
