Zealous civil lawyers now fear prosecution
Article Abstract:
Criminal defense lawyers say prosecutors are trying to intimidate them with criminal charges, but prosecutors reply that lawyers must observe limits on zealous advocacy. Though the government case against six Florida lawyers accused of helping the Cali cocaine cartel is going well, most such efforts have failed on had only mild success. The fight also includes whether clients' names must be put on an IRS form disclosing receipt of cash sums over $10,000 and subpoenaing lawyers or searching their offices.

New explorers hope for riches in India; U.S. lawyers see opportunity as the world's largest democracy modernizes
Article Abstract:
US law firms are starting to see India as a good place to set up a foreign office. New York's Reid and Priest, Chadbourne and Parke and White and Case have all established offices there. Reid and Priest cites India's industrial revolution and 1991 economic liberalization as creating a good environment for foreign investment and much work for lawyers. The indigenous competition has given other firms second thoughts about establishing a presence in India.
