BBC rejects lifeline as cash crisis continues
Article Abstract:
The BBC is to make further cutbacks although it will not have to clear its remaining 80 milion debt until the end of 1996. Programme makers believe that they have been deceived by high ranking figures in the BBC into believing that the government had ordered the debt to be cleared. The BBC is committed to reaching zero by 1997, and redundancies have not been ruled.

Back to year zero: the BBC's bid to reduce its borrowing to zero will inevitably mean job losses and programme cuts. Network managing director Will Wyatt is making a lot of enemies for his support of John Birt's strategy
Article Abstract:
BBC programme makers fear they will be affected by the latest cost savings. Will Wyatt, BBC Network Television managing director, has not ruled out redundancies, and programmes possibly affected could include certain drama projects. There are allegations that it was the BBC's own idea to reduce its debt to zero, rather than an order by the government.
