C4 to make space for Nick's Rejects

Channel 4 has acquired the comedy drama show "Renford Rejects" from Nickelodeon UK. The first original drama produced by Nickelodeon UK, targeted at viewers aged 10 to 14 years old, is about a bunch of run-of-the-mill students who get together to set up a football team. The initial telecast "Renford Rejects," which is created by writer/producer/director Steven Bawol, will be aired by Channel 4 during the summer of 1998 as part of "The Bigger Breakfast." The show, which was unveiled on Nickelodeon UK in February 1998, is believed to have a budget per episode between 70,000 pounds sterling to 100,000 pounds sterling.

C4 movie channel secures Sky deal

Channel 4 is close to signing blanket distribution deal for its pay-TV movie channel on BSkyB's analogue and digital satellite (DST) platforms and BDB's digital terrestrial TV (DDT) service. The new movie channel, dubbed as Film Four, is slated to be launched in November 1998. C4 is planning to invest up to 3 million pounds sterling promoting the debut of Film Four, which will feature modern independent movies such as "Four Weddings and a Funeral," Trainspotting" and "Betty Blue" and film-makers such as the Coen brothers, Almodovar and Tarantino.

Straight TV scores hit to make C4 pop series

Straight TV, an independent television-show production company from Manchester, UK, has been commissioned by Channel 4 to create a new 30-minute, seven-episode pop series. The new network pop series, which is yet to be given a title, will be aired during the school holidays and will start in July 1998's third week. The new network pop series will also be infused with a summer feel by having much of its scenes filmed on an outdoor environment.
