When CNN was launched on 1 June 1980, people were very skeptical about the audience for the channel. But, the first day of the1991 Gulf war had a record audience of 1 billion people around the world, proving people wrong. This month, trail blazer CNN has successfully completed twenty-four years of broadcasting twenty-four-hour news. With three other 24-hour news services in U.K. currently, CNN is striving hard to stay ahead with breaking news. Chris Cramer, the managing director of CNN International, discusses his plans to diversify into analysis, documentary and sports programs.

The Hallmark Channel has been ranked 4th in the United Kingdom multi- channel market. It has achieved this ranking without showing sex and violence. Sex may give a temporary boost to ratings, but its appeal is only temporary.
