Castles in the air
Article Abstract:
The British Broadcasting Corp.'s drama serial Castles was commissioned from Granada TV, producer of the record-breaking, long-running soap Coronation Street. However, Castles ran for only 24 episodes before it was scrapped because of low viewing figures. The question of whether Castles failed because of a weak script or because of its low budget has important implications for TV broadcasters' programming policies. If it failed because of budget considerations, it could have an impact on future programming projects.

Natural progression
Article Abstract:
National Geographic TV (NGT) has been able to become a commercial operation since the US government freed it from its 'non-profit' guidelines. This has prompted it to establish new production and distribution offices in London as part of plans to develop links with television broadcasters throughout the world. So far in the UK, it has undertaken co-productions with the BBC and Anglia's Survival unit.

Dandelion has recently moved into self-financed production and its most signicant project is an adventure series called Hiden City costing $5 million, in partnership with South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
