NI to buy majority stake in TM3
Article Abstract:
News International has announced that it will take over the Munich, Germany-based women's channel TM3 through the acquisition of a 66% stake for less than DM100 million or GBP35.7 million. The agreement is subject to the conditions that the channel should get a major investment and access to the Fox catalogue. The remaining 34% stake will be retained by current owner Herbert Kloiber, who will transfer management control of TM3 to News International. Business manager Jochen Kroehne said that the company expects that the first return on investment would happen in 2001.

General strikes
Article Abstract:
There should be a radical overhaul of the BBC's internal finances, according to Tom Gutteridge, former chairman of independent producers' association PACT and chief executive of Mentorn Films. The BBC sees itself as a service provider, but in fact it is a manufacturer, and will not make any progress until it accepts this. It is now important to separate broadcasting from making programmes.
