The black vanguard integrates newsroom
Article Abstract:
Black journalists, who trained at some of the best journalism programs and campus newspapers and who regarded themselves as vanguards, worked for newsroom integration. The fight to integrate newsrooms is still an ongoing process. They influenced the 'thinking' and racial makeup of the newsroom by making editors factor nonwhites into every facet of the news operation. Initially, the black vanguards had a hard time landing prime positions such as publishers, editors, bureau chiefs and desk heads. As the years wore on, however, some of them made it to the top.

The future is the Net: news on-line is here to stay
Article Abstract:
Journalism must now accept that the Internet has become firmly established. This is part of a trend within which young people in particular obtain information from a wide range of sources. The traditional structure of a small number of people dispensing information to many people is collapsing. Journalism must acknowledge this trend, and journalists must become willing to share power and create a new relationship between the vendor and the consumer of information.
