The choice for broadcast executives in August is always whether to attend the Edinburgh Festival or do something else. The Festival this year has a eback-to-basicsE theme. The MacTaggart lecture will be delivered by John Humphrys, an on-air presenter, as opposed to the practice of an industry bigwig, which in itself is an attraction.
