Eight shots of the action
Article Abstract:
The digital revolution in television broadcasting has encouraged the development of digital cameras. There are several manufacturers developing digital formats, among them being Sony and Panasonic. Sony has four formats currently available, ranging from a low-end miniature camcorder to a high-end Digital Betacam, positioned to compete with 16 mm film. The surfeit of products makes it difficult for producers to choose a format, but the BBC's controller of research and development Ian Jenkins suggests that buyers should take an overall view of the package before making a purchase.

DVCPRO benefits from NAB's strategic tie-ins
Article Abstract:
There was no really innovative technology on display at the recent National Association of Broadcasters Conference (NAB). However, it did provide a forum where Avid and Panasonic, who have been rivals in the development of news camera formats, could agree to cooperate on making Panasonic's DVCPRO camera format a more open system. The Open Media Framework (OMF) format for footage shot on DVCPRO systems will be supported by Panasonic.
