ITV shares have soared following daily announcements of media deals, alliances and acquisitions. ITV companies derive their main source of income from advertising revenue, and competition will increase when Channel 5 is launched in 1997. Digital terrestrial television is not a short term opportunity for ITV to benefit from pay-TV revenue, as it will only be available to 50% of the TV audience by 2010.

Strictly glamour pays off for BBC1

BBC1's "Strictly Come Dancing" on October 14, 2007 took in 7.7 million viewers or a 35.9% share, peaking at 8.8 million/39.5% at 7:15 p.m. ITV1's "Wedding Special" was unable to emerge victorious with only 3.4 million/19.4% share, and "The X Factor" took in strong 7.4 million viewers on October 7.
