Highway to the stars or road to nowhere?
Article Abstract:
The revolution in information technology has created a limited number of global telecommunication leaders and their future actions will determine whether information highway leads to the general well-being of the society or ends up as a commercialized misadventure. An ideal telecommunication system should respond to human concerns and channelize society into the right direction, instead of just being a purveyor of news and peddles of dreams. Information should be received by all sections of society and cater to diverse multi-lingual and cultural groups all over the world.

Newspapers: figure out how to give readers a choice and take your eye off the quarterly earnings report
Article Abstract:
Newspapers are set to undergo significant changes in the first quarter of the 21st century. Some of these changes will result from the environment, while others will result from efforts by newspapers to respond to readers and advertisers. Newspapers will remain dependent on advertising as their main source of revenue, and they will probably not move to free distribution, even though this could produce financial advantages. The main area of uncertainty will be the Internet and the extent to which it will attract readers away from newspapers and attract advertising.
