Our guide to the digital future
Article Abstract:
Satellite broadcaster BSkyB is to launch electronic programme guide (EPG) software in conjunction with its digital satellite service in June 1998. Development of EPG has cost 10 million pounds sterling. EPG will allow viewers greater control over what they choose to watch, by showing listings of programmes, informing users when favourite programme are about to start and helping plan weekly viewing patterns. EPG is needed because of the large number of channels which will be available when digital services begin. Tests show it takes about 15 minutes to learn how to use the EPG system.
