Indies win rights in BBC/Pact deal
Article Abstract:
Pact, the trade organisation for the UK's independent television production companies, has reached an agreement with the BBC on new terms of trade following lengthy negotiations. Under this agreement, independent production companies will be able to give up all rights to their programmes in return for receiving full funding from the BBc. However, they will also be able to license UK rights to the BBC for five years, during which time the BBC will be permitted to make two terrestrial showings. This option will involve independent production companies in finding their own funding.

In the mainstream?
Article Abstract:
Controversy continues as the BBC appears to be closing specialist program units, as some say that mainstream programming has achieved inclusion of cultural diversity. Some black and disabled people agree that the specialist units are not needed if appropriate programs can still be produced elsewhere in the BBC. Still, there are some programs that minority audiences would like to see that mainstream audiences will not be interested in (such as reviews of the latest wheelchair designs).
