Article Abstract:
Helen Gurley Brown published the book 'Sex and the Single Girl' in 1962 to hostile criticism from feminists and intellectuals, but millions of people bought the book in the first 2 weeks of publication. Brown's magazine Cosmopolitan was seen as a publication for working-class, less intellectual women. Brown wanted women to see themselves as the sexually liberated, fictional "Cosmo Girl."
