LWT launches Lab for low-cost shows
Article Abstract:
LWT is establishing a new department dubbed as The Lab that will handle the development of low-cost programs in high volumes for niche operators. The move, which will create 25 new jobs, will also produce programs using the latest technology including digital technology for ITV2. The Lab, which will be headquartered in London, UK, is planned to start operations by the first quarter of 1999. The Lab, which was announced by LWT Programmes Director Marcus Plantin, will be headed by current LWT Director of Production Terri Jones as project director.

Melling quits as GMTV editor after two years
Article Abstract:
GMTV has received the resignation of Gerry Melling as its editor after serving the company for over two years. Melling, who resigned due to the hectic schedule the position requires, makes his resignation official by end of 1998 after his paternity leave, which will start by end of November 1998. GMTV is currently searching for a replacement of Melling with candidates from GMTV also being considered. Among those being considered are Malcolm Douglas and Ruth O'Toole, both of whom acted as Melling's deputies.
