The Racecourse Association of the UK remains in the decision phase concerning TV rights to horse racing. Carlton has been placed as a front-runner, with the BBC reportedly willing to share the spotlight with the winning media concern. It has been estimated that 65 billion pounds sterling was gambled on horse races in 2000, globally.

ITN is planning to axe 'News at Ten' in favour of an early evening news bulletin. Despite criticism from the tabloid newspapers and a number of personalities including Prime Minister Tony Blair; the Independent Television Commission is expected to approve the move. ITN is planning to bring the news program forward to 18.30, with a news bulletin at 23.00. In October 1997, a survey revealed that around 66% of television viewers were happy for 'News at Ten' to be moved.
