Media globalism in the age of consumer sovereignty

Article Abstract:

Globalization of the media has resulted in the taking over of regional stations by transnational media conglomerates and led to a coverage of events and data more suited to the consumerist society for which it operates. The opening up of the economy and the subsequent acquisitions and mergers of diverse media into a limited, international cartel should be monitored closely by media researchers to obviate the resultant drawbacks. The media is now run according to the economic factors of demand and supply, and there is a need to constantly monitor its future course.

The natives are restless

Article Abstract:

The US media has expressed concern over the growing foreign ownership of media. Many fear that foreign ownership would lead to a loss of identity, similar to what occurred in other nations when American films became a part of their mainstream culture. Thus, the advent of the multichannel globalized era will bring inevitable changes in US media, despite its attempts to shun foreign ownership.
