Practising the dark arts
Article Abstract:
A Lo-Lite camera hired from cameraman Martin Dohrn was used to film footage for BBC's 'The Life of Birds.' This camera made it possible to film birds at night from short distances away. The camera uses moon and star light, which it intensifies to invisibly illuminate subjects in the dark. In contrast, the specially modified Sony DCR-TRV9 DV camcorders with 'NightShot' capability used to shoot footage for the Discovery Channel's 'Eco Challenge' use infra-red light to allow them to see in complete darkness.
