Putting TV on report
Article Abstract:
The standard of children's television has come under attack in the US as the government introduces a new code to enforce broadcasters to transmit 3 hours per week of educational and informative children's programming. The standards of UK children's television are enforced by the Independent Television Commission, which rules that 10 hours of programming should be provided per week. Concern has been raised by the transmitting of American imports, which are often animated and non-educational. These are shown mainly on satellite channels which do not come under the ITC requirements.

Growing pains
Article Abstract:
Children are watching an increasing amount of non-terrestrial television channels and less traditional programmes from broadcasting companies such as British Broadcasting Corporation. Studies show that young people are watching less terrestrial television and spending more time on alternative sources of entertainment, including the world wide communications network Internet, cable and satellite television channels. Advanced technology will be used to develop bespoke entertainment systems for individual users, predicts Research Business director Claire Byrne.

The director Malcolm Mowbray decided in 1992 to make a film of Alan Ayckbourn's play The Revengers' Comedies and consulted the head of the British Broadcasting Corporation's (BBC) Films unit, Mark Shivas.
