Radio predators get go ahead
Article Abstract:
Commercial radio is expected to undergo a period of acquisition activity when the new ownership proposals raising the number of licences a company can hold to 35 are introduced. However the ownership proposals will mean that News International (NI) and Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) will be banned from having controlling interests iin terrestrial broadcasters as they have over 20% of total nationa newspaper cieculation. The proposals will mean the formation of a new regulatory body to oversee media ownership.

Commercial radio in the UK began 1995 with the departure of Radio 1FM breakfast presenter Steve Wright. Also John Revell of Virgin Radio, departed following a dispute, and took over production of Chris Evans' new R1 breakfast show. The Radio Authority also announced that it would advertise a further London-wide frequency. Talk Radio UK launched on Valentine's Day and Virgin FM launched in London.

Revellations: Chris Evans' appointment as presenter of Radio 1's breakfast show hit the headlines last week. Now Evans' pal and former Virgin colleague John Revell has joined as high producer as the BBC's troubled station tries to boost its ailing ratings
Article Abstract:
Chris Evans is to present the Radio 1 breakfast show for eight months from April, and the show's producer will be John Revell, former Virgin programme director. Evans and Revell had previously worked together on Radio Radio and BBC GLR. The music policy on the breakfast shows is expected to become more mainstream and there will be greater use of phone-ins.
