Reassessing the winners and losers: a reporter looks back at the events he covered in 1968
Article Abstract:
The tumultuous daily events of 1968 occurred so swiftly and unexpectedly that recording them and attempting to make sense of their immediate effects constituted a monumentally difficult task. Certainly US liberalism was dealt a mortal blow along with the trust of the young in politics. These events include the Viet Cong Tet Offensive, McCarthy's victory over Lyndon Johnson in New Hampshire, Robert Kennedy's entrance to the presidential election, Johnson's withdrawal from the presidential race, and the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Kennedy.

Heresies of liberalism
Article Abstract:
The relation of the media to three major movements in 1968 was clearly pivotal. The causes and consequences of the three movements, namely, the civil rights and subsequent black upheaval, the Vietnam War and finally the political trauma associated with the murders of John and Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. has been exhaustively analyzed. For media and for politics, the year 1968 had a radical impact and conservative consequences.
