Regions rebel
Article Abstract:
Chairman of Scottish Television PLC (STV) Gus Macdonald has publicly requested that Scottish Independent Television companies be allowed more independence from the Independent Television (ITV) network. As it stands, STV pays 33 million pounds sterling to ITV's budget and shows the network programmes. Macdonald's argument is that the support for regional programmes is great and that, with the possibility of a Scottish Parliament, STV's 1,000 hours of local programmes should be increased and the number of ITV network programmes reduced. Macdonald wants further restructuring for ITV.
