Research shows 14% set to install digital TV
Article Abstract:
A study conducted by Continental Research shows that 14% of consumers in the UK intends to purchase digital TV in the next six months. The result suggests a high level of response from consumers if compared with other new communication systems such as mobile phones. Continental Research's 1997 mobile phone report found out that only 6% of consumers plan to buy a mobile phone in the next six months. The report also cited a high awareness about digital television among consumers, with 83% of the adults claiming to had heard of the technology as of end of August 1998, up from 72% in May 1998.

Sky goes soft
Article Abstract:
BSkyB went soft with its launching of its digital-satellite television services, with the company airing around 25% of 200 digital-television channels it pledged to transmit. While the number of digital-television channels have been boosted to 100 channels, many of the new digital-television channels are duplicates of BSkyB's analog-television channel offerings, such as VH-1, Nickelodeon, MTV and Granada Plus, and contain similar versions of the broadcaster's Sky News programming.
