BSkyB develops adult toon for movie channel revamp
Article Abstract:
BSkyB has partnered with animator Simon Henwood and the UK design company Seven, to develop a 30-minute adult cartoon series entitled, Poor Johnny Pumpkin. The animation, which is lated to be ready for broadcast by late autumn 1998, is one of the 16 original and acquired shows, valued at a total 3 million pounds sterling, that BSkyB will distribute among its three Sky Movies channels. BSkyB also revealed a 3.1 million-pound-sterling on-screen rebranding of its three Movies Channels, which calls for Sky Movie Screen 1 to be renamed Sky Premier, Sky Movie Screen 2 to be rechristened Sky MovieMax, and Sky Movies Gold to become Sky Cinema.

Universal Sci-Fi Channel Europe Managing Director Janet Goldsmith has joined the television station because she sees it as an interesting time for the industry. She is aware the station will need a larger audience and has plans to commission some new programs and show popular films. Goldsmith admits the more unpopular channels are likely to fail. She has already been involved in changing the management structure at Sci-Fi. Goldsmith will also work on launching channel 13th street and Studio Universal. She has already had some experience at working on new channels, such as Meriden in the UK.

ITC asks digital players for choice
Article Abstract:
Independent Television Commission (ITV) is calling for digital television service firms to give viewers more options in choosing which channel they want the programs they offer to be shown. ITC CEO Peter Rogers said digital providers could offer their packages with a choice in a group of six channels at a fixed price. The suggestion Rogers posted could be more expensive but he said the alternative will not create any problems. Rogers reiterate the importance of giving customers alternatives and the freedom to choose which service they want to pay for.
