The broadcasting equipment industry will be exhibiting new products and forging new alliances at the NAB '97 show in Las Vegas, NV, in April 1997. Major manufacturer Sony is expected to announce a series of strategic alliances for its SX serial digital data interface and compression chips, and could be considering computer software deals. Manufacturer Quantel of Newbury, United Kingdom, will be exhibiting the Java programming language, while Discreet Logic will demonstrate its virtual set technology and the updated versions of Fire, Inferno and Flame.

Article Abstract:
Keenness amongst film production companies to acquire Magmaster and Wiseman, failed companies in the industry, is indicative of the optimistic air in the industry. There are at least four companies interested in Wiseman, which failed as a result of its parent company's, Bullers', financial problems. Magmasters has already been acquired by Photobition, which specialises in exhibition services.

NAB in the spotlight
Article Abstract:
The 1995 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference attracted a record 83,408 visitors and more than 900 exhibitors. There was particular emphasis on news technology, with strong competition between Panasonic and Avid over digital newsgathering (DNG). There was also a debate about news reporting between Rupert Murdoch and ABC News reporter Jeff Greenfield.
