Taking kids to market
Article Abstract:
Finance and merchandising have become essential elements in the success of pre-school children's television programme making. A successful children's series needs to consist of at least 78 separate episodes before it will be shown in some markets, resulting in large amounts of financing being committed to a project with no guarantee of success. The most successful UK pre-school television programme of the late 1990s is Teletubbies, which has made up to 23 million pounds sterling for its makers Worldwide and Ragdoll Productions.
