Setback hits Avid as Spectrum fails
Article Abstract:
The Spectrum high-end editing and special effects system launched by Avid Technology at NAB in 1995 is presenting difficulties for the company. The 600,000 pounds sterling system, which was supposed to run on Silicon Graphics' Onyx super computer, is proving too hard to construct at present. The system is currently being beta tested by 14 facilities worldwide, and negative feedback from these locations has prompted Avid to remove the product from sale. It does not plan to relaunch Spectrum in the foreseeable future.

Facilityland's empire builders
Article Abstract:
Production companies and facility houses which have been traditionally viewed as separate entities are joining forces. Gains to be made include varying degrees of rights to programmes they create as well as promoting financial diversity. Another aspect of these associations would be to even out the high and low variations in demand and to improve efficiency. Some of these joint ventures may increase their workloads.
