Soap Awards and reality TV wash away elections

On Wednesday, ITV's British Soap Awards brought in 11.3 million viewers, and even "Big Brother" was more appealing than the election coverage earning Channel 4 4.3 million viewers, over the four million that watched the election special "Challenge the Leader" on BBC 1. Reality programs are also dominating the ratings with Friday's "Survivor" getting 5.9 million viewers.

ITV and BBC 1 closely matched viewer share most of the week, however, it was BBC 1 that triumphed with 38% viewer share. ITV's Who Wants to be a Millionaire picked up 8.97 million viewers over BBC 1's Casualty with 8.85 viewers, and Popstars received 6.45 million for ITV with Parkinson bringing in 7.81 million viewers for BBC 1 Saturday night.

BBC 1's money offerings fail to tempt Bond fans

ITV used the 1962 movie "Dr No" to help boost its Wednesday night viewer share past the BBC's, and succeeded holding the BBC to just 19%. This week belonged to ITV with six consecutive episodes of "Coronation Street" all making the top ten, five episodes of "Emmerdale", and taking 20 of the top 25 shows for the week.
