Several programming acquisition executives from the UK television broadcasting industry will be attending the Mip 97 programming market at Cannes, France, in Apr 97. The aquisition teams are due to attend both Cannes and the LA Screenings in Spring 1997. They hope to purchase a variety of programs including films, childrens programs and comedy and drama series. Each team has its own purchasing strategy and budgetary limitations. The team from ITV are hoping to purchase some films whilst BBC TV executives are unsure if they will find anything suitable for a UK audience.

Occupying the middle ground

Central television has revealed a 62% increase in programming hours supplied to the network in 1995, compared to 1994. The unit made up 66% of its parent company Carlton's operating profit; and it has also reported increased advertising revenue. An overview of Central's recent performance is given, including details of local TV in the Midlands, BBC Pebble Mill, and local views by independent producers and facility houses.
