The global media system during the mid - 19th century and the 1920s and the rise of globalization is studied. The era between 1907 and 1923, a second moment in long standing efforts to change the way the global media system of the time was owned, regulated and used is explored.

Against cultural essentialism: Media reception among South African youth
Article Abstract:
A research project investigated students for the way the youth used globally produced media texts in an attempt to make sense of their lives. The cultural essentialism inherent in the media imperialism thesis, indicating cultural mixing is discussed.
