Due to the difficulties Independent Television and the British Broadcasting Corporation have had in hiring chief executives, U.K. broadcasters are turning to headhunters to find the new leaders of broadcast management. Top headhunters claim marketing and management skills, as well as a vison of the future, are more important qualifications than programme-making ability.

BBC creates 700 jobs
Article Abstract:
Over the past year, 700 production jobs have been created at the BBC, while 1100 administrative jobs are supposed to be cut by 2006. Director general Greg Dyke promised to cut jobs in non-programming areas to help realize the 1.1billion pounds sterling license fee settlement, and the BBC reports that accelerated job cuts are expected in the coming months.

With talent inflation running at 20 percent, rival television channels and other media have been draining the British Broadcasting Corporation of its top stars. The BBC is fighting back by creating a new talent unit which will help guide the careers of its stars.
