The relationship between online and offline communities: the case of the Queer sisters
Article Abstract:
A study is presented which helps in filling the gap in existing research by examining the autonomy of online communities in relation to their offline counterparts and is based on a case study of a bulletin board on the worldwide web and the women's group in Hong Kong. The community formed on the bulletin board differed from the Queer sisters over major goals and norms are found using the content analysis.

Article Abstract:
The development of civic and community networks in the Greater Manchester area is examined. The cultural intermediaries might have values similar to that of the technologically advanced people but are very much influenced by the apparent means of cultural production like the multimedia.

Pierre Bourdieu's analysis of cultural production in terms of its effectiveness for understanding contemporary media production is evaluated. Bourdieu uses economic and political fields and the field of power, the educational field to put fort his theory of cultural production.
