Union anger at Granada news move
Article Abstract:
Granada Television and broadcast unions have failed to agree on plans to discontinue the transmission of news bulletins from Liverpool, England. Based on Granada's proposal, news transmission is to be transferred to Manchester, England, and its On Digital joint-endeavor shopping channel with Littlewoods will be accommodated at the studio complex at Albert Dock in Liverpool. However, Broadcasting union Bectu and the National Union of Journalists have submitted to the Independent Television Commission a formal rejection of Granada's offer of a relocation or voluntary redundancy, which they consider a breach of Granada's franchise commitments. Meanwhile, a spokesperson from Granada stated that the unions had reacted rather strongly regarding the issue.
