Very firmly on the ground
Article Abstract:
Some television broadcasting executives in the UK believe that the prospects for digital terrestrial television (DTT) are poor, while others say that the format has a prosperous future. DTT services are due to begin in the UK in July 1998, with licenses expected to be awarded in spring 1997. In the end, the success of DTT will depend on the audience take-up rate, with estimates suggesting that DTT may account for around 2% of audiences in its first year, eventually rising to some 27%. Research suggests that the UK digital market will be worth 4.9 billion pounds sterling by 2005.

Time to deliver
Article Abstract:
ITV is launching its 170 million pound sterling schedule of programmes for autumn on 21 July 1998, and expectations are high that the three new executives who run the Network centre will have come up with innovative ideas. However, there are fears that internal politics may have restricted their ability to do so. New gameshow formats are being tried, such as Don't Try This at Home and Truth and Consequences. There have been radical internal changes to the way things are done and the team is cutting any programme which does not meet its audience targets.
