Article Abstract:
Kids TV characters mean big business, and the merchandising opportunities can be large if the character does not go out of style and has a wide global appeal. This is not the case for the puppet Sooty, whose show was cancelled in 2006 after running since 1952. The economic impact of Sky's move to stop issuing EPG slots is also discussed.

The broadcasting industry is starting to implement environment-friendly policies and practices. However, energy consumption of television viewers is continuously rising with the advent of plasma TV, DVD recorders, and other entertainment devices. Some companies are introducing products that consume less energy.
