A grave new world: 10 lessons from the war in Iraq
Article Abstract:
Ten incontestable lessons from the war in Iraq are presented. It is concluded that technology could not win wars by itself, land warfare still demands ground troops, ground troops should be in sufficient numbers, speed is the dominant battlefield requirement and occupations have vital requirements.

The progress made in Iraq is achieved solely by the commitment and the quality of troops and their uninformed leadership. Fighting insurgencies demands imagination and determination, empathy and patience, power and restraint, boldness and caution, adaptability and unwavering moral strength.
