AGS bids for expanded missions
Article Abstract:
Airborne ground surveillance (AGS) system, the Northrop Grumman E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS), for the first time will trace its origins to a concept from the 1970s, but is running into limitations associated with platform age and performance, and with the old technology of its radar system. In addition, three major AGS programmes aimed at a follow on system for the US Air Force (USAF), the first AGS systems for the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) and an all-new AGS capability for NATO are under way.
