Australians plan more Super Seasprites
Article Abstract:
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) intends to augment the 11 remanufactured aircraft ordered under the first phase of Project Sea 1411 by procuring additional Kaman Super Seasprite SH2-G(A) helicopters. The RAN's inventory of Super Seasprites is expected to continue to increase during the later phases of the program, including the planned acquisition and long-term storage of seven Seasprites for possible upgrade to SH-2G(A) in the future in the Project Sea 1411 phase two. Phase 3(A) may result to the conversion of some of the helicopters acquired in the program's phase two to SH-2G(A) versions. The SH-2G(A)s are designated for the RAN's Anzac class frigates, but can also operate from the Adelaide class FFG 7s to supplement the vessels' S-70B2 Seahawks.

US has interest in UK trimaran demonstrator project
Article Abstract:
The United States will test equipment aboard the UK's RV Triton trimaran demonstrator, in a move the signals the country's interest in the UK trimaran warship experiment. The project also drew the interest of other countries, and was further advanced when the a $19.5-million UK contract was awarded for the construction of the first trimaran warship demonstrator. The trimaran hull, which is being developed for possible application for the UK's Future Escort that will replace the Type 22/23 frigates, is expected to provide Future Escort with larger and higher anti-air warfare radars, numerous beneficial helicopter options, improved speed and seakeeping potential, reduced signatures and stealth and a flexible design for various roles.

Australia delays big project
Article Abstract:
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) will see a delay in its procurement for eight new surface vessels that will replace the Adelaide class FFG 7 guided missile frigates under Project Sea 1400. The project was eliminated from the unclassified New Major Capital Equipment Proposals 1998-2003 of the Australian Department of Defence. The previous plan called for capability assessment on the new ships in 1999/2000 and entry of the first vessel in 2013. The RAN is planning to achieve a fleet of 14 surface combat vessels, including the six upgraded Adelaide class and eight Anzac class with their enhancement programs.
