Baltic states battle organised crime
Article Abstract:
The Baltic states of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia have hopes of joining the expanding European Union, and are making an effort ot curtail organized crime in the region. The organized crime problem began growng in the Baltic since the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Latvia's Minister of Defence Atis Slakteris speaks about the nation's integration with international peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan, the Balkans and Iraq. Slakteris believes Latvia needs to concentrate on its existing missions and build from there.
