Chilean company boosts naval capability
Article Abstract:
DESA has won a contract to undertake weapons sytems work on Saar 4 FAC(M) Casma with the possibility of a later contract for sister vessel Chipana. The Chilean company has already completed the refit to Angamos. Live firing tests conducted on the vessel showed spectacular results. DESA will undertake the necessary software, interfacing and signal processing work in the replacement of old analogue systems by commerical off-the-shelf components. It has also been involved with retrofits to the two Iquique (Saar 3) FAC(M)s.

Outfitting advances on Al Riyadh
Article Abstract:
DCN is building three La Fayette-derived stealth frigates at its Lorient shipyard in France under the Franco-Saudi Sawari II agreement. The first F3000s frigate, called Al Riyadh, for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces will begin sea trials in Sep 2001. According to program manager Vincent Martinot, the project has been Lorient's major activity since 1998. It has involved nearly all of the DCN organization's construction and electronics facilities.
