Conflict and porous borders open up Iraq to drug traffickers
Article Abstract:
The UN Office on Drugs and Crime has noted increased drug trafficking through northern Iraq from Iran to Turkey since 2003, suggesting that traffickers may be taking advantage of the conflict and porous borders to develop new routes. Illicit drugs consumption in Iraq has increased while the country is also being used a transit point for drugs consignments en route to other countries.
