Cyclone ships may find new life in war on terrorism
Article Abstract:
The 170-foot Cyclone-class coastal patrol ship was condemned as too bulky for commando missions and too small for the regular surface navy before 11 September 2001 and hence the Coast Guards were using them as a training platform for their juniorEs officers and sailors. However, the war on terrorism has forced these patrol ships to come into service for homeland security patrols and maritime interdiction operations.
