Enhancing DF capability
Article Abstract:
Avitronics has started marketing the Emitter Location System (ELS), which was intended to be fully integrated with an airborne radar warning receiver or electronic support measures system. ELS offers the required fast and accurate direction finding needed for such functions as directing jammers or geolocating emitters. The system is made up of a receiver and a controller built into a single 15-kilogram unit, plus one or more interferometric antenna arrays. Each array provides an azimuth coverage of 120 degrees and elevation of 70 degrees. Standard frequency response of two to 18 gigahertz can be reduced down to 0.5 gigahertz by a 0.5- to 2-gigahertz option.

The eyes of the night
Article Abstract:
Different opto-electronic equipment have become accessible in recent decades for use by special operations forces. Sophisticated equipment, such as image intensifiers, the Mark 1 eyeball systems and infrared systems, provide soldiers with imaging, thermal detection and true night-vision capabilities. Advanced opto-electronic equipment allow special operations forces the ability to perform covert operations, such as the extraction and insertion of small units.
