FY02 Bush defense budget delivered
Article Abstract:
The defense budget for FY 2002 focuses on improving quality of life for military personnel through pay increases, improved medical care and better housing. The budget includes $400 million in additional pay and another $1 billion for military compensation programs. Another $400 million was also allocated for military housing, including new housing, 'out-of-pocket' allowances and renovation of existing units. The $2.6 billion set aside for defense R&D includes funds for a missile defense program.

The cost of engagement
Article Abstract:
The costs of US military presence in the Middle East is being addressed by the House of Representatives and the Senate. There are two commands which are responsible for upholding US security interests in the region, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) and the US European Command (EUCOM). Both the CENTCOM and the EUCOM have prepared major exercises for Fiscal Year 2001. A discussion of other important Middle Eastern issues to be included in the agenda of the 107th Congress is presented.
