DRS chmn Mark Newman provided in interview a profile of his firm, its objectives and management thrusts. DRS started as a manufacturer of signal processing equipment for underwater systems and passive sonar processing. It became public in 1981 and by 1983 was posting $24 million in sales. With its earnings, it refocused its operations towards electrooptics by acquiring Photronics. DRS is composed of four main groups; Electronic Systems, EO Systems, Flight Safety and Communications and Data Systems.

Atlantic Research Corp is a manufacturer of titanium matrix composites (TMC) that are used as exhaust nozzle actuator piston rods and compression links in modern military aircrafts. The lightweight materials, which uses silicon carbide fiber reinforcements, are also being eyed for further military and commercial airframe applications. ARC is the only known commercial manufacturer of TMC as of 2000.

Rohde and Schwarz has developed a multi-mode and multi-function surface radio family called the M3SR series 4400. The product delivers secure voice and data transmissions in fixed-frequency or EPM modes. It software- programmable and covers the VLF to SHF frequency range. It has a plug and play functionality which offers mix-and-match customization while additional communication lines can be set up without needing any hardware alignments.
