Future ambition charting the course of CVF
Article Abstract:
The Labor Party's Strategic Defense Review (SDR) has backed up plans to replace the UK Royal Navy's (RN's) three Invincible-class aircraft carriers with two larger 30,000-40,000-ton carriers. The endorsement, however, was not readily given as the GBP2.2 billion ($3.6 billion) plan represented the single biggest debate in the SDR. The issue generated much controversy not only because of the size of the expenditure involved but also because the program represents a paradigm shift for the RN and entire UK military.

RN submarines to receive new CESM suite
Article Abstract:
Raytheon E-Systems and Sanders, a Lockheed Martin unit, have become top contenders in the race to satisfy the UK Royal Navy's (RN) needs for a new communications-band electronic-support measures (CESM) system for its nuclear attack submarine (SSN) fleet. The SSN CESM program, which will satisfy Staff Requirement (Sea) 7415, is aimed at supplying the RN's Swiftsure, Trafalgar and new Astute class boats with an advanced HF/UHF/VHF signals intercept, recognition, and direction finding and monitoring capability.
